How to open a project

This topic describes how to open a project. Opening a project makes that project the active project.

To open a project:

  1. Select File > Open > Project from the menu bar. The Open Project dialog box is displayed.

  2. Navigate to the location of the project (*.sdlproj) file, select the file and click Open.

The project name is displayed on the title bar of the application and the project becomes the active project.

NOTE You can also open a project by double-clicking on the project name in the Projects view.

How to create a return package

Return packages are created using the Create Return Package wizard.  You can launch the wizard from any view in SDL Trados Studio by selecting Project > Create Return Package from the menu bar. You can also select files that you want to include in the package in the Files view and right-click and select Create Return Package from the shortcut menu.

If you opened a project package from another translation management application in SDL Trados Studio, when you create a return package it will automatically create it in a format that you can upload back to that application. See Supported Package Formats for more information.

When you create a return package it only includes the project files and not the translation memory, termbases or AutoSuggest dictionaries. A return package contains files for which a manual task has been completed. For example, the files are translated or reviewed files. A return package can include some of the translated or reviewed files or all of the translated and reviewed files that were originally sent in the project package.

A return package can also contain files that need further work. For example, if a reviewer receives translated files in a package and they review the files and find that one of the translations is incorrect, then they can return that file to the translator in a return package to correct the translation.

Cannot open my return package

Symptoms: You get a return package (*.sdlrpx) from a translator to whom you sent an project package (*.sdlppx) but you get an error message saying you can’t import the package.

Steps to solve the problem:

  1. First make sure that you are trying to load the right file type *.sdlrpx. If your translator sent back an *.sdlppx file the you have the wrong file. Refer your translator to Creating a return project package.
  2. If you see this error:

package error

Then you might have erased the project from your project list. It this is the case, don’t worry you can still get it back. All you have to do is go to your projects folder, by default located at: Documents> Studio2015> Projects> Name-of-your-project There you will find a file with the name of the project and the extension *.sdlproj. The file will look like this: Captura

Just double click the file and it will open in Studio and will be added again to your projects list. See how to open a project.

After that just try to open the return package again, and it should get imported just fine.

SDL Trados Studio license upgrade process

You have bought an upgrade of your SDL Trados Studio license, or you are entitled to it because you have a valid Support and Maintenance contract. However, you do not know how to upgrade your license, or when you check your SDL Account, you cannot find the relevant license.

For the upgrade process to your most recent version in our fulfilment system to be triggered, you need to perform a few simple steps: depending on the version you are currently using and the version you want to upgrade to, there are a few steps required to receive the upgrade license.

NOTE: When you upgrade your license, you replace your old version license with a new version license. SDL recommends to always use the most recent version of the software. However, if you are required to use an older version, your SDL Trados Studio 2014 license can also be used to activate SDL Trados Studio 2011 (and your SDL Trados Studio 2009 license will work for SDL Trados 2007).

Upgrade from 2014 to 2015

Important:

  • When you upgrade your license from Studio 2014 to Studio 2015, you will no longer be able to use Studio 2014. If you want to use Studio 2014 and Studio 2015 simultaneously, you need to purchase a standalone 2015 license and not an upgrade.
  • Exception for Freelance licenses: If you do not deactivate your Studio 2014 license on your computer, you can continue to run Studio 2014 alongside Studio 2015 until you have to reactivate your license – for example because you change your computer. Until then, you can run both applications until you feel comfortable enough to move over to 2015 altogether.
  • If you are planning to upgrade a network license, please make sure you have the SDL License Server Manager installed, preferably before upgrading your license.

Upgrade process

  1. Deactivate your 2014 license. Refer to articles 3914 (single user license) or 4883 (network license) for details. You can skip this step for Studio 2014 Freelance licenses.
  2. Log into your SDL Account.
  3. In your SDL account, go to Products & Plans > Licenses.
  4. On the left hand-side, click on Upgrades Available:

3031(clic en la  imagen para agrandar)

5. A new screen will appear with all available upgrades. Search for the license you would like upgrade and click on Upgrades:

3032

  1. A new window will appear, advising that the license is lost and replaced with the new one.
  2. In order to make this switch select Process Upgrade.
  3. Now go back to Products & Plans > Licenses to find the new license.
  4. Activate the new license. Refer to article 8295 (single-user license) or the online product help (network license) for details.
